Sun Style. Many consider this the gentlest style, which makes it immediately accessible to the beginners, the elderly and those who have difficulty moving. At AYC, we teach a shortened 12-move version of Sun Style, developed by Dr. Paul Lam as “T’ai Chi for Arthritis”, as well as the Sun 73, also known as the Sun Long Form. This is a class for the newcomer to T’ai Chi, as well as those who have a basic understanding of the Sun form. Sign up online.
A more advanced class for students that wish to explore T’ai Chi more deeply. Practicing the Yang Style, we work on both the “short” form of Cheng Man Ch’ing, as well as the well-known, classic “long” form – the Yang 108. This form is “larger” than the Sun Style, and perhaps a bit more athletic. Seniors seem to be more attracted to the Sun style for this reason, but both are quite do-able, if you are willing to apply yourself and are physically able. Sign up online.
The practice of Zen involves focusing the mind on nothing while being totally aware. Participants sit facing the wall for 30 minutes, do an interlude of walking meditation, then sit again for a brief period. This is usually followed by a talk and a short discussion. Cushions and chairs are provided. For more information call group leader Jack McDowell at 479-789-2531. To view an ongoing collection of Jack’s Dharma talks, visit Zentalks. Donations accepted.
